From time to time, I look at videos on different topics on YouTube. Thanks to that, I also came across the life stories of some people who once fought in various leftist organizations.
For someone who , in his youth, tried to learn about leftist organizations from the opposing books of Fethi Tevetoğlu and Aclan Sayılgan , the autobiographies of leftists cause different impressions.
My influence led me to meet Bingöl Erdumlu , whose name I had never heard of and who passed away two years ago, in absentia. First through his video, then through his memoir “Sixth Suite”, which consists of his conversations with Can Şafak .
Erdumlu was a member of THKP-C ; however, since he was someone who did not care much about his organizational ties, his path crossed with leftists from almost every tendency…
I recommend this book to those who want to witness the political events of Turkey after the 1960s from a different perspective.
Erdumlu ‘s paths often crossed with members of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) . From what he said, it is understood that he does not find TKP members likable. He considers them to be sectarian types.
[ In literature, ‘ sectarian’ means blindly loyal to a doctrine, idea or belief , rigid and intolerant . ]
With my curiosity to take a look at the country’s history through the eyes of the leftists, the statements made by Mehmet Uçum, whose CV is mentioned and whose history with the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) is definitely mentioned , under the title of “Chief Advisor to the President” came one after another.
He is probably no longer a leftist, Chief Advisor, but judging by his statements, some of his old characteristics still continue.
He is strict and intolerant not only with the content of his statements but also with his language and style.
I think the idea that he speaks on behalf of the state drives him to act this way; it is clear that he believes he should have the final say on almost every issue.
His previous statements were the same, but his stance on the developments regarding the ‘new solution process’, which is the current topic of discussion, is quite important.
Let’s remember what happened.
On the first day of the new legislative year of the Parliament, MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli went to the DEM party members and shook hands with the party’s co-chairs Tuncer Bakırhan and Tülay Hatimoğulları , explaining the reason for this behavior as the “search for peace inside” while “peace” was becoming difficult outside .
Using the title of ‘ terrorist leader’ , the MHP leader called on Abdullah Öcalan to call on the PKK to lay down its weapons.
He explained the reason for his behavior to MHP deputies at the group meeting as follows:
“ While it is obvious that the regional fire that is being fueled day by day is almost upon our doorstep, should we still waste time stepping on each other’s toes, slapping each other on the back of the neck, looking for loopholes? / We cannot turn our backs to these truths , we cannot turn our faces away, we cannot frown. / We cannot recklessly step onto the bank of the rapidly flowing river of history and watch the passing of life and events, heedless, inactive, as if nothing is happening.”
The first support for his statement came from President Tayyip Erdoğan , who is also the chairman of the ruling party AK Party . President Erdoğan openly supported the initiative initiated by Bahçeli in response to the call made by him earlier to “strengthen the domestic front” …
With the words, “ As the number of those taking these steps increases, we will hopefully be able to broaden the base of social consensus on the new constitution” and “ We are always ready to eliminate the issues with non-terrorist methods ” …
These successive statements from the government naturally turned into an expectation.
In anticipation of what will come next…
Indeed, just as DEM party members interpreted the developments accordingly and promised to do their part, the new party leader of the CHP, which has been witnessed to display different attitudes in the recent past, Özgür Özel , announced that they would support the steps to be taken towards a solution, based on the Bahçeli-Erdoğan statements.
Except for a few marginal elements, all political elements have come to the same conclusion on an important issue.
Until Mehmet Uçum ‘s last statement…
The summary of what Uçum said is in the following sentences:
“ The state will not try again the methods and paths that it has tried but failed to achieve full results. The state will find other effective methods and paths . These are the strong and effective political and military strategies implemented after July 15. There is no question of softening or abandoning them .”
Uçum also found Bahçeli ‘s ‘regional fire’ approach ‘absurd’ …
What happens now?
Will the approach of someone on duty at the Complex take precedence over the views expressed by the leaders of the two partners in power?
Will we have to throw away the statements of President Erdoğan and MHP leader Bahçeli ?
Or will Uçum be told to “Shut up” ?
We’ll see.
